Reports emerging from New Zealand suggest that World Cup winning centre, Sonny Bill Williams, could be about to return to the Sydney Roosters and the NRL.
Stuff.co.nz reported that the Roosters could release a host of players including, Boyd Cordner, Michael Jennings and Sam Moa to comply with salary cap regulations, and as a result find space for Williams.
Roosters chief executive Brian Canavan said that the Sydney club would like to retain the services of Cordner, but that they have ‘a heap coming off contract’. Indeed, the Roosters lost Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and James Maloney last year due to a salary cap squeeze.
While many will not be surprised by Williams desire to return to the NRL, he will represent New Zealand’s sevens side at next years Olympics.
Nevertheless it should be noted that he is currently training at the Rooster’s gym alongside their under 20 team.
